Sussex VI go top after beating league leaders

Our Sussex VI (Visually Impaired) side went top of the National Blind Cricket League Division 1 after an impressive 38 run win over previous leaders London Metro.

17-year-old opener Callum Weir (40) laid the foundations of a steady innings as wickets fell regularly at the other end.

A two-paced pitch saw players get in with the top six all making double figures before falling when trying to push the scoring rate on.

When the innings closed on 149 all out it looked like Sussex were around 50 short of a par score. Metro had bowled very tightly with Mohamed Galib 3-15 from six overs the pick of their bowlers.

Sussex bowled very smartly, and tight fielding kept the scoring rate low, Phil Daniels 2-26 and Joe Harrison 2-15 kept Metro below the asking rate and by the halfway point they were 76-3. 

A stunning full-length diving catch from Alex Towers saw Metro lose their 4th wicket as the dangerous Damion Corrigan was dismissed for 16 and this seemed to send a spate of nerves through the Metro dressing room.

Dan Field brought himself on and ripped through the lower middle order returning figures of 3-5 from his three overs.

Dave Daniels 2-28 produced an incredible swinging delivery to bowl Hassan Khan around his legs for a duck and end Metros hopes on 111 all-out.

This gives Sussex a 14-point lead at the top ahead of their next opponents, Northants. Sussex have just two games left in the league and wins in both would make them strong favourites to lift the title.

Our next game is a trip to Yorkshire on 16th July in the T20 Quarter Finals before we face Lancashire in the National Knockout Cup on the 23rd.

The game against Lancashire starts at 1pm and will take place at the Sussex Development Ground at Blackstone Lane, entry is free, and all supporters are welcome.
