You may remember a message from Sid the Shark, before last season’s T20 Blast match against Essex Eagles on August 18th.
Sid was looking for your help in raising money to help fund treatment for a very special friend of his, two-year-old Charlie Fielding, who became paralysed from the waist down when he was just 18 months old as a result of a rare condition.
Our loyal mascot is delighted to pass on the news that thanks to your generosity at the match, the Sussex Cricket Foundation were able to handover £707 to Charlie’s dad, Jamie.
The money raised will help pay for Charlie’s latest round of physiotherapy treatment, which is crucial to promoting his health and development.
Sid is spending the winter in warmer waters resting up ahead of next season, so wasn’t available to present the cheque himself at The 1st Central County Ground, but Sussex’s Director of Cricket, Keith Greenfield, was on hand in his absence.
Jamie Fielding expressed his gratitude for your generosity: “We really want to say a massive thanks to Sussex and all the fans who supported Charlie’s fundraising.
“The money will go towards his ongoing physio needs which are making a huge difference to his day-to-day life”.
Sussex Cricket Foundation’s Administrator, Steve Pickup, who coordinated the collection added: “Sussex Cricket Foundation are proud to support Charlie Fielding, a hugely inspirational young boy whose an important member of the Sussex Family.
“We wish Charlie and his family all the very best for the future and look forward to watching his progress”.
