Heavy rain prevented any play on day three of the LV=Insurance County Championship match between Leicestershire and Sussex.

Umpires Mark Newell and Ian Ramage ruled out any prospect of play after a 2pm inspection of a sodden outfield, with the square still under cover.

Leicestershire are 291 for two in their first innings, trailing Sussex by 68 runs but with two unbeaten centurions in Hassan Azad (122) and Lewis Hill (109) ready to resume their innings, their partnership having added 183 so far, a county record for the third wicket against Sussex, surpassing the 163 added by George Watkins and Maurice Tompkin at Hastings in 1947.

Both sides are looking for a first win in the divisional stage of the competition, but although the forecast for Wednesday is better, a positive result looks unlikely unless the two captains, Callum Parkinson and Tom Haines, can agree on a way to set Leicestershire a fourth-innings target.
