Jofra Archer named as Wisden Cricketer of the Year

Jofra Archer has been named as one of Wisden’s Five Cricketers of the Year. 

The Sussex star burst onto the international scene last May and went onto enjoy an incredible year with England, winning the World Cup at Lord’s and taking two six-wicket hauls in the drawn Ashes series.

Archer made his England debut in a one-day international against Ireland, helping Eoin Morgan’s men seal a four-wicket win in Malahide with figures of 1-40.

He made his IT20 debut two days later as England faced Pakistan at Sophia Gardens, and once again impressed by taking 2-29 in a resounding victory.

The 25-year-old then went on to take 20 wickets at the World Cup – the most ever recorded by an England bowler in a World Cup campaign – and bowled the unforgettable super-over in the final.

During his maiden Ashes, Archer continued to look at home in an England shirt, and took two six-wicket hauls for Joe Root’s side as the series against Australia was drawn.

Pat Cummins, Elyse Perry, Simon Harmer and Marnus Labschagne were the other four cricketers on Wisden’s shortlist.
