Head Coach, Jason Gillespie made his first appearance in front of the media at the Sussex Cricket men's media day on Wednesday.
“There’s a doggedness about Sussex and Sussex cricketers; a real pride and passion.”
'Dizzy' gave his first impressions of the club and the squad since touching down on Sussex soil on Saturday and explained what had convinced him to take the job.
“You only have to look at the lads to see how fit and strong they are. They’re putting in the work.”
The assembled media asked the legendary Australian fast bowler how he dealt with the expectation that has followed his appointment, his priorities for the season ahead and whether he could be tempted away from the club.
“I’ve signed a three-year deal and I have every intention of honouring that commitment.”
The two-time County Championship winning coach explained how he ensured he maintained his own high-performance whilst helping players achieve their best.
Jason finished by setting out his philosophy on bringing young, home-grown cricketers through the ranks and detailing what it is he loves about the game in England.
“We’ve got a great mix of young kids coming through and some really good experienced cricketers. They’re good people and that excites me.”
