Girls' academy & EPP players set for first warm-weather training camp

6 Mar 2019

Players from the Sussex Cricket girls’ academy and emerging player programme (EPP) are heading to Desert Springs Resort in south-eastern Spain for their first ever pre-season, warm-weather training camp.

Academy players, Ella McCaughan, Cassidy McCarthy and Ella Wadey, EPP players Amie Anderson, Frankie Angel, Elise Jorgensen, Freya Kemp and Hollie Young and coaches Ian Cox and Georgia Adams will spend four days at the resort in Almeria, departing on Friday.

During the camp, the group will take part in outdoor net sessions, middle practices and team-building exercises as well as making use of the first-class gym facilities and working on the tactical side of the game.

Cox, Sussex Cricket’s girls’ academy and EPP lead coach explained the benefits of taking the group abroad ahead of the season: “With the academy and EPP academy programme now in its third year we felt it was important to expand their experience and knowledge in different environments and situations.

“The trip will also give them some invaluable grass wicket practice conditions leading into the season.”
