David Wiese in fine form ahead of Finals Day, powers St Lucia into CPL final

15 Sep 2021

A dominant all-round display from David Wiese helped power St. Lucia Knights into the Caribbean Premier League final.

Sussex’s Vitality Blast overseas player contributed a trademark cameo with the bat, hitting 34 from 21 balls including four sixes, as the Kings posted an imposing 205 for 4 batting first against Trinbago Knight Riders in Tuesday’s semi-final.

Player of the Match, David then took 5 for 39 as the Kings dismissed Trinbago for 184. That was his second five-wicket haul in his four appearances in this year’s CPL, after he took 5 for 25 against Barbados Royals in St Lucia’s penultimate group game.

With six, David is now the bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in the history of T20 cricket, overtaking Lasith Malinga with Tuesday’s performance.

The former South Africa allrounder has had a good few days after being selected by Namibia for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. David qualifies for Namibia by descent, as his father was born in the country.

He will return to England later this week ahead of Sussex Sharks’ appearance in Saturday’s Vitality Blast Finals Day at Edgbaston.
